Every full representation client I work with starts with a thorough strategy consultation. This is not a formality — it is the foundation of a successful application.
In our session, we identify any red flags in your case before they become problems, determine whether inland or outland is right for your situation, and build a document strategy that gives your application the strongest possible foundation.
When a file is prepared correctly from the start, the risk of Additional Document Requests (ADRs), Procedural Fairness Letters (PFLs), and refusals is dramatically reduced.
There are two ways to sponsor a spouse to Canada. The right choice depends on your situation, timeline, and risk tolerance.
| Inland Sponsorship | Outland Sponsorship | |
|---|---|---|
| Who Qualifies | Spouse already in Canada on valid status | Spouse living outside Canada |
| Work Permit | Open work permit available during processing | Separate work permit required |
| Travel | Spouse must maintain valid status in Canada | Spouse can travel freely |
| Processing | Single IRCC office | Processed by local visa office |
| Flexibility | Less flexible if circumstances change | More adaptable to changing situations |
Not sure which is right for you? We determine this together in your strategy consultation.
Processing times vary. Inland applications typically take 12–18 months. Outland applications depend on the visa office in your spouse's country. In my strategy consultation, I give you a realistic timeline based on your specific situation.
IRCC looks for evidence across six categories: financial interdependence, shared address, government ID, communication records, social recognition, and travel history. I help you build a complete, well-organized evidence package.
If you apply inland, your spouse can apply for an open work permit simultaneously. If you apply outland, your spouse would need a separate work permit to work in Canada during processing.
The sponsor is the Canadian citizen or permanent resident who is sponsoring their spouse. There is no co-signer in spousal sponsorship — the sponsor takes on full financial responsibility for their spouse for three years from the date PR is granted.
